The year 2016 is about to get a lot more exciting, if the just-revealed 2016 Chevrolet Cruze is any indication. Revealed by General Motors CEO Mary Barra at a media event in late June, the next-gen Cruze is designed to be larger than the previous model year and full of safety and tech features, but it will also be lighter and more aerodynamic. Chevrolet is positioning this vehicle as a small-car contender to remember!
The current Chevy Cruze is no slouch in the sales department, having climbed to the number-three spot in compact cars by U.S. sales volume, standing just behind the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. The Cruze also happens to be GM’s most prevalent vehicle internationally, with 3.5 million models sold since 2008.
Chevrolet plans to blow the competition away with its 2016 model, which will sport a redesigned body and a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that boasts 11 percent more horsepower and 20 percent more torque. This contributes to the car’s faster acceleration and superior highway fuel economy of 40 mpg. The larger body also means drivers and passengers alike are going to have more room, and the vehicle will have even greater cargo capacity than it already had.
“Being able to make the car not only lighter and more fuel efficient but bigger shows the consumer the technical capability of the automaker,” IHS Automotive analyst Stephanie Brinley told Automotive News. “It says, ‘We’re going to continue to give you a better product and things you don’t expect.’”
